Reading in quarantine
We will spend a lot of time deciding which books to read
We will learn how to disappear and find ourselves in our books.
When you close libraries for us, we will hide and still read.
We will leave books for other girls to read
Between the chores we will always find time to get back to our books
We will sow a garden of words and dreams
We will read forbidden books about forbidden things
A well read woman will intimidate you
Watch us reach the glass ceiling and smash it for good
We will peek at you once in a while
We will read our way to freedom
Unlimited books for limitless dreams
Too busy for your banter
Sometimes our books will be stolen
But we will our ways back to them and reclaim them
We will talk about the books we love real LOUD
Take ourselves on solo book dates
We know our books will wait for us
As we have waited for them
All this time
To find the right words
In a world that never gave us a language
As we sleep and wake with them
We will carry our books
Safe and growing
Someday all women will be libraries.
